GATORS MOVE UP ON FINAL DAY OF WINDY CITY CLASSIC Florida finishes fourth with three in the top 20

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. — In the final round of the Windy City Classic, the Gators moved up two spots to finish fourth in the tournament.

Battling tough weather conditions, Florida had the third best round of the 15 teams in the field carding a nine-over.

The Gators finished the week with a three round score of 870 (+18) passing Iowa State and Duke in the final 18 holes.

Individually, Florida was led by Taylor Tomlinson who placed 12th in the event at three-over par. Just two strokes behind her was Carlotta Ricolfi who with the help of 12 birdies on the week finished in a tie for 18th.

Ricolfi and teammate Marta Perez both finished tied for third in the tournament in total birdies as their dozen was just one back of the tournament leaders.

With three birdies on her final nine, Elin Esborn totaled 10 for the week. Those final three helped her move up 16 spots to place 20th in the tournament.

Coach’s Take:

On how the Gators handled the conditions –“The conditions were tough today. It was windy and the pins were tougher and less accessible. I thought relative to the field we played better today. I was happy to see our team try and implement some of the strategy we have discussed this fall. I thought we made some good pars and some saves that helped us move up.  Everyone fought hard all the way to the end and I was very good to see.”

On growing from this tournament — “As I said earlier this week, this was a really great experience for our team. This is the type of golf course that requires you to pay attention and can expose some weaknesses. I thought we gained a lot of valuable information to help us prepare for our next event at the end of the month and also just to help us get better overall.” -Coach Emily Glaser
